Surprise delay halts Boca’s review of new emergency room proposal
BOCA RATON, Fla. (CBS12) — A long-anticipated discussion about expanding emergency care in Boca Raton was unexpectedly delayed Tuesday night, leaving residents who showed up to speak feeling frustrated and unheard.
City leaders were scheduled to review a proposal for Boca Raton’s first freestanding emergency room, planned for the area near Glades and Yamato Roads. But just moments into the meeting, the council announced the item would be postponed for two weeks.
The sudden change left many residents stunned.
“It just kind of smells to me like there were some politics at play,” said resident Bryan Leib.
“There’s only one hospital provider here in this region, and I don’t really understand why there can’t be more than one.”
